Dialogues on tangible and intangible heritage and art: bridging past and future.
A word from the programming committee

For our fourth edition, we fostered exchange and collective reflection on the promotion of heritage within non-Indigenous museum and conservation institutions. Discussions on repatriation, relationships with museums, and the promotion of heritage aim to strengthen the affirmation of Indigenous cultures and to redefine the role of communities, organizations, and artists in preserving their heritage.

The Gathering is a space to highlight new forms of cultural and artistic expression, as well as to recognize the efforts that help showcase heritage not merely as a legacy of the past, but as a living and essential element of contemporary identity.

Workshop on material heritage in an indigenous environment. From object to knowledge: how to document and showcase our heritage.

This workshop addresses the documentation of Indigenous material heritage using an approach rooted in community reality. It explores simple tools and practices for receiving, understanding, recording, and disseminating the heritage objects entrusted to us, while respecting the knowledge and cultural contexts specific to each community. A practical portion in small groups will allow participants to concretely experiment with the tools presented and discuss challenges in the field.

Archives in the process of learning

and self-determination

Open discussion with knowledge holders

and the public.

Canadian institutions have named “archives” the original documents created by individuals or organizations in the course of their work and life, which are preserved because they constitute important traces of our histories. But behind this word, what do knowledge holders see? What is an “archive” and in what ways can it be used to honor the memory of ancestors?

Moderator: Inter-Nation Archives Committee*
